Educational Objectives
After attending this introductory level program in full, participants will be able to:
1) Describe Jung's model of the psyche and his views on motivation.
2) Identify Jung's concept of "shadow" and its usefulness in accessing the unconscious.
3) Apply specific clinical processes for engaging the shadow and complexes.
4) Discuss why analytic work is, at its foundation, a relational, two-person clinical model that compliments current studies in the field of relational psychoanalysis.

Description of Program: Dr. Baker will discuss Jung's structure of the psyche and his view of motivation, both of which account for his emphatic belief that the analysis of the "shadow" is the beginning point for all analytic work. Jung is best understood through his valuation of interdisciplinary dialogue with philosophy, literature and theology; as such several sources from each will be employed to illuminate the idea of shadow. Clinical implications for working with the shadow are explored via discussion of case vignettes.

Presenter: David Baker, Ph.D., is in private clinical practice in Winter Park, Florida specializing in the care of those serving in the healing professions. As founder and Director of Renewal Associates, Inc., a non-profit educational organization, he provides consulting services to health care institutions and other organizations, focusing on leadership development and performance management. He is an adjunct professor of psychology at Rollins College (Winter Park) and Mars Hill Graduate School (Seattle, WA). He has presented at many conferences and workshops nationally on themes that integrate the psychological and theological. He holds the Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute in Santa Barbara, California and a Masters degree in theology from Biola University, La Mirada, California.
