Educational Objectives
After attending this intermediate level program in full, participants will be able to:
1) Identify the three essential themes of a relational approach to couples treatment.
2) Summarize the six steps associated with practicing a relational approach to couples psychotherapy.
3) Differentiate this model from other psychoanalytic approaches to couples psychotherapy.
4) Identify key differences between countertransference conjunctions and disjunctions.
5) Apply the six step approach to case material.

Description of Program: Dr. Ringstrom will present his six-step model for practicing a relational approach to couples therapy. A brief historical context for the model’s creation from a relational and intersubjective perspective will be shared, along with the salient concepts underpinning it. Each step will be illustrated with case material. During the afternoon session Dr. Ringstrom will provide in vivo consultations emphasizing how his model works in helping clinicians conceptualize and practice this contemporary version of psychoanalytically focused couple’s psychotherapy.
